was founded by
telecom in 1994 before being purchased by Mannesmann AG in October
1999. In February 2000 Mannesman was bought by Vodafone, and as a
result of regulators not allowing them to own two mobile telephone
licences in the UK
they were sold to France Telecom in May of the same year.
2009 it was announced that Orange UK and T-Mobile were being
merged by their parent companies (France Telecom & Deutsche
Telekom respectively). Following an investigation by the
Competition Commission, the merge was complete in march 2010. The
newly created holding company Everything Everywhere had became the
market leader overnight with a market share of 37%.
